Puts a Corporate Spin on Europe
Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited, the leading supplier
of high performance telecommunications solutions, has announced
a series of recent corporate developments, expanding its UK-based
facilities and strengthening regional activities across Europe.
In the UK, Fujitsu has established a new London office, and announced
a series of new training courses, aimed at the spectrum of telecommunications
industry applications. In Portugal, the company’s subsidiary Fujitsu
Elotécnico Telecomunicações SA is focusing on the issue of quality
improvement, with the appointment of a new Quality Manager.
Fujitsu’s new London office houses permanent staff, and is located
in Buckingham Street, WC2 close to London’s famous Covent Garden.
It is intended to provide comprehensive central facilities for customer-based
activities, as well as giving "hot desk" links between visiting
Fujitsu personnel and the company’s European headquarters in Birmingham.
On the training front, the new courses launched by Fujitsu’s Telecommunications
Training Centre encompass all facets of modern telecommunications
systems held either at the Birmingham-based Centre or on customer
premises, as required. The courses range from introductory level
telecommunications to advanced training on ATM, SDH and Intelligent
Networks, Internetworking, SS7 Signalling, Digital Microwave Radio,
and Data Communications. The Telecommunications Training Centre
team has focused closely on practical issues, aiming to provide
delegates with hands-on training that can be quickly and efficiently
translated into the workplace.
Fujitsu’s Portuguese operation is a key strategic resource in
the fast-growing Portuguese telecommunications market. Headquartered
in Alfragide, the company has additional facilities in Massamà,
on the outskirts of Lisbon, comprising a production plant, service
and engineering, purchasing, installation, maintenance and a dedicated
training centre. 189 staff in total are currently employed by Fujitsu
Elotécnico Telecomunicações in Portugal with one of the most recent
recruits being the new Quality Manager, Pedro Pereira. His responsibilities
include the maintenance of the company’s ISO 9002 quality accreditation,
together with the ongoing development of quality systems throughout
the organisation.

the breadth of modern telecommunications networks. Focused on providing
strategic end to end solutions, Fujitsu offers a complete turnkey
service from project planning, community liaison, cable laying and
civil engineering, to the complete installation, implementation
and ongoing maintenance.
The company has a long-established track record for product and
service innovation, with extensive expertise in the field of leading
edge optical transmission and telecommunications switching technology.
This ranges from the development of the most advanced Photonic Network
Solutions; to Passive Optical Networks; Fibre Access Systems; Synchronous
Digital Hierarchy (SDH) networks; Advanced Switching Systems; Radio
Access Systems and IP Applications; in addition to its TMN-compliant
Network Management Systems.

currently one of the world’s largest communications equipment suppliers
Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe has an extensive research and
development resource at its Birmingham location, and also operates
as part of Fujitsu’s global manufacturing resource. In addition
to the R&D capabilities, the facilities at the Birmingham site include
sophisticated surface mount technology production, accompanied by
a dedicated support facility, a large customer training centre and
a thriving external plant organisation. The company also has an
R&D software centre in Northern Ireland, alongside a manufacturing
plant and a service centre, complemented by a manufacturing plant
in Portugal, and regional offices in Spain and Belgium.
