Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Selected for BT ADSL Contract

Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, is to be awarded a £multi-million contract by BT, taking a leading role as a strategic partner in the deployment of ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) equipment. This latest agreement is part of BT's £5 billion investment programme, transforming standard copper telephone lines to carry new high speed multi-media and Internet services. The initial programme will provide ADSL capability to 400 exchanges by Spring 2000, involving around six million businesses and households.

Fujitsu's innovative access technology and Network Management systems have already proved themselves in BT's successful ADSL trials, conducted over two thousand lines during the past 12 months. Fujitsu is working as part of a long-term three-way strategic partnership with BT and Alcatel. As a flexible, generic multi-service product portfolio, Fujitsu's ADSL solution provides fast access to broadband communications services on demand, together with the optimum building blocks to incorporate future network requirements. This versatile approach is complemented by Fujitsu's Access Network Management System - FENS AN - providing comprehensive remote-access facilities.

Commenting on the contract win, Keith Gibson, Fujitsu's Director of Sales and Marketing, said:" We are very pleased that BT has taken this important step in the commitment to providing high speed digital service over ADSL. It is a significant contract win for Fujitsu, and we are delighted to be a part of this deployment. We will work to ensure its success through Fujitsu's in-depth technology capability, supporting BT's aggressive roll-out in the coming months."
